Our fitted wardrobes across Kensington and Chelsea
Rail heights are set for the clothes they hold. Long coats and dresses need one tall section, while shirts, jackets and folded trousers suit two rails, one above the other. We plan for the people using it too. Most enquiries start with wardrobes that are full to bursting and space under the eaves going to waste, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made at our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- You contact us with a short note about the room and the wardrobes you have in mind.
- We visit to measure the room and discuss the design.
- You receive a quote in writing setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish.
- We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.
What goes into your quote
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
Why work with us
- Every quote follows a design visit
- Saturday work by prior arrangement
- A spray or hand-painted finish
- We work across all London boroughs
Starting with a design visit
If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Fitted wardrobes across Kensington and Chelsea: local notes
In Kensington and Chelsea, a spare room often doubles as a study or a guest room. Fitted wardrobes can be planned so the room switches between them.
About 66% of the homes in Kensington and Chelsea went up before 1919, and about 10% between 1973 and 1999, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. More than half of the homes in Kensington and Chelsea (about 66%) were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Older bedrooms usually have alcoves and tall ceilings, both of which fitted wardrobes can use, scribed to walls that are not straight. About 25% of households in Kensington and Chelsea live in flats in converted or shared houses, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. Conversions often leave rooms in unusual shapes, with partition walls, boxed-in pipes and chimney breasts in odd places, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. A lease can require consent for alterations, so it is worth checking yours first.
Kensington and Chelsea is part of the area we cover, which takes in all 32 boroughs and the City. If you are unsure about access or parking, mention it when you contact us.
Kensington: For a family home near St Barnabas and St Philip's CofE Primary School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as The Tower House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Looking after your furniture
Getting the most from fitted wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
- Work out the split between long and short hanging
- Tell us about the lift and stairs in your block
- Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
Do not pack clothes tight against the back panel, particularly on an external wall. Air moving through helps avoid condensation and mould.
Now and then, check that handles and hinges are tight.
When you need someone else
Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we do not do:
- Taking out a chimney breast to make space
- Redecorating around the wardrobes
- Electrical work, like moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
Pricing fitted wardrobes in Kensington and Chelsea
What you pay depends on:
- The number of doors and drawers
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- The width and height of the space
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan for it.
What to send when you contact us
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it’s useful to send:
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Your postcode and the borough
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and a quote in writing follows.
Flats, conversions and lettings
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you get in touch.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Bought wardrobes come in the maker’s finishes. Fitted wardrobes are painted in a colour agreed with you. Bespoke work does take longer than buying from a shop, since there is a design visit, a quote and workshop time first.
What to check before you book
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Kensington and Chelsea
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.
Which boards do you build with?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF gives a smooth, stable surface for paint; birch plywood is strong and good for shelves and drawer boxes.
How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?
We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. That’s why we measure the route, not just the room. In a leasehold flat, it is worth checking the lease first.
Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?
That depends on how much space there is in front of the wardrobe. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense, and in a roomier space hinged doors give easier access. We will look at the room with you at the design visit.
What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?
Each room is quoted on its own: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. You will get a quote in writing once we’ve measured up.
How do I get a quote?
Simply fill in our short enquiry form. Rough measurements and a few pictures help, and then we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, followed by a written quote.
