Fitted wardrobes in Hounslow: how it works

Hanging heights are planned around your clothes, not a catalogue. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while shirts, jackets and folded trousers suit two rails, one above the other. We plan for the people using it too, so the top rail is within comfortable reach. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about wasted space beside the chimney breast and clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms.

Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard.

  1. You contact us with some details about the room and the wardrobes you’d like.
  2. We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
  3. You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish.
  4. We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home.
  5. Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.

Quotes in Hounslow

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Getting a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Landmarks near Hounslow

We fit furniture in homes around Kingsley Academy, Moon Under Water pub and Chatsworth Primary School and the streets around them. Also close by are Royal Military School of Music (0.8 miles south), Church of St Mary the Virgin (a few minutes’ walk east) and Inwood Park (under half a mile west). For rail, the closest station is Hounslow station, roughly 0.6 miles south-west of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include South Middlesex Hospital (0.9 miles south-east) and Treaty Centre (0.6 miles west). Not far away are Garden Lake.

Bedroom storage across Hounslow

Homes across Hounslow, Feltham, Brentford and Isleworth among them, often have one bedroom that has to do two jobs. Fitted wardrobes can be planned so the room switches between them.

The biggest shares of homes in Hounslow were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 29%) and since 2000 (about 20%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. About 29% of homes in Hounslow date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. 11 of the 25 places in Hounslow with their own pages here have their centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. The rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission.

We work across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, and Hounslow is part of that. Wherever you are, the job starts with a design visit.

Hounslow: If your children go to Chatsworth Primary School or a school nearby, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. For a flat near Hounslow station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Caring for painted furniture

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Let us know about the lift and stairs in your block
  • Let us know about any damp you have seen on bedroom walls
  • Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
  • Decide what goes on shelves and what goes in drawers

New paintwork is dry to the touch long before it has fully cured. For the first while, open and close the doors gently and don’t scrub the surfaces.

Make sure vents at the top or bottom of the wardrobe aren’t blocked, particularly on an external wall. Look out for a musty smell or spots on clothes and have the cause looked at early.

Honest limits

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Building work to create a loft room
  • Treating damp or mould on the walls
  • Redecorating around the wardrobes

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Modular interior systems can be rearranged easily, and that flexibility is useful. A bespoke interior is planned around your clothes from the start, and adjustable shelves keep some flexibility.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t typically do that in an older room.

It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

How do I get a quote?

Simply send us a few details through our contact form. Rough sizes and a few pictures help, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Do you cover areas outside London?

No. We work in London and nowhere else, across all the boroughs and the City of London.

What happens when you come to measure?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

It depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The wardrobes are built in our workshop first, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.

Can I send photos before the visit?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, particularly with rough sizes. To send them, message us from the contact page.

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. If you are in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.

Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?

We allow for it from the start. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls.
