Loft storage across Hounslow: what to expect
Loft rooms are often bedrooms, so storage for clothes matters. Wardrobes under the slope, drawers in the knee wall and shelves in the dormer can all work together. Designed as one, they give the room calm, consistent lines. For a home in Hounslow, it is planned around your things. Most enquiries start with ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs and a boarded loft with no proper shelving, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote.
- It starts with some details from you.
- At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- The storage is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
- We fit it in the loft and check each door and drawer with you.
- Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.
What goes into your quote
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

How to get a quote
Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, use our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Fitted storage across Hounslow
Across Hounslow, flats and conversions rarely come with enough storage. Eaves cupboards can add it without taking over the room.
About 29% of the homes in Hounslow went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 20% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. About 29% of homes in Hounslow date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Many interwar houses have had their lofts converted, leaving sloping ceilings and eaves to use. 11 of the 25 places in Hounslow with their own pages here have their centre inside a conservation area, according to Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission.
Homes across Hounslow range from period terraces to modern blocks, and we work in all of them. The process is the same wherever you are: a design visit, a written quote, then making and fitting.
Hounslow: If your children go to Chatsworth Primary School or a school nearby, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit. If you live near Inwood Park, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.
Do you need loft storage?
A sloping ceiling makes a standard wardrobe impossible. A wardrobe made for the slope uses the full height. It is a common need in a loft bedroom.
Here’s what loft storage can help with:
- Standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs
- A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
- A loft room with too many jobs
- Low eaves that nobody can use
Materials and finishes
Moisture-resistant MDF
Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well. It’s used for the doors, fronts and side panels, where a smooth, even finish matters.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting can be done on site once the storage is in. It is easy to touch up if it gets marked. That helps in a well-used bedroom.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
For simple storage in a boarded loft, ready-made shelving can do the job. A fitted design earns its place in a loft room you live in. We’ll give you an honest view at the measuring visit.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Can you see real work of theirs?
Flats, leases and landlords
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the design visit.
Before and after fitting day
The finish lasts best with a little care. These practical tips help:
- Measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landing
- Clear the knee-wall spaces before the design visit if you can
- Choose a calm colour for the loft
- Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both
Heavy items are best kept in the lower parts of the storage. That keeps the drawers running smoothly. Shelves are made for what you told us you’d store.
Leave room for air to move behind the storage. Squashed insulation works less well. Damp in the eaves is worth raising with the people who did the conversion.
Common questions about loft storage
Can you convert my loft as well?
No. We don’t carry out loft conversions. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.
What materials do you use for loft storage?
The storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.
Will the storage fit up my loft stairs?
We measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft room. We size every section for the tightest turn, and the pieces are put together in the room.
Will eaves storage block the ventilation?
Not if it is planned with care. We design eaves storage so it does not block ventilation or squash insulation. For worries about existing insulation or vents, ask the people who did the conversion.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?
Yes. A wardrobe made for the slope fits where a standard one cannot. Hanging goes where there’s height, with shelves where it is low. It is cut to fit the ceiling and walls exactly.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough sizes. To send them, message us from the contact page.
