About bespoke kitchens in Hounslow

An island can be a good addition where there is space for one. There needs to be enough clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and in a narrow kitchen an island can make the room harder to use. If the room is narrow, we’ll suggest other layouts. Typical reasons to get in touch are a kitchen planned around your appliances and open shelves with cupboards below; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing, gas and electrics aren’t part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
  4. We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home, working around your plumber, your electrician and an engineer on the Gas Safe Register.

How our quotes work

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Kitchens across Hounslow

Many period kitchens in Hounslow sit in a narrow rear extension with uneven walls. Cabinets are scribed to those walls and levelled on site. Plumbing, gas and electrics are handled by other trades.

About 29% of the homes in Hounslow went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 20% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. About 29% of homes in Hounslow date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Many houses of that era have had the kitchen extended or knocked through, so the kitchen is designed for the room as it is now. Of the 25 places we have local pages for in Hounslow, 11 have their centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission.

Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, Hounslow included. Every job starts the same way, with a design visit to measure and talk through the design.

Hounslow: For a flat near Hounslow station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Worton Hall, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

Practical tips

These points come up often when people plan bespoke kitchens. They help whatever the room:

  • Check stairs, hallways and lifts for access
  • Choose your appliances before the design is final
  • List what needs a home in the kitchen
  • Deal with damp walls first

Once the kitchen is fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth. In time, mild soapy water and a soft cloth keep them clean.

Damp walls should be dealt with before cabinets are fitted. Cabinets against a damp wall can trap moisture, especially on a colder external wall.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

Where other trades come in

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Any work on the gas supply
  • Structural changes to the room
  • Painting the walls around the kitchen

What it costs

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • The overall size of the piece
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Parking near your home
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Before the design visit

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • How you want to use the space

To get a quote, message us from the contact page and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a written quote afterwards.

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?

Neither choice is right for every home. In a simple modern kitchen, off-the-shelf can be enough. Where the room is awkward, the house is older or you want a painted kitchen that suits it, bespoke is usually worth considering.

What to check before you book

  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Hounslow

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

We plan the route in at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.

Do you work for landlords and letting agents?

Yes. The process is the same: a design visit, a written quote, then the furniture is made and fitted. Access can be arranged through the letting agent.

Do you make good the walls afterwards?

No. Plastering and decorating aren’t part of our work. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.

What does a bespoke kitchen cost?

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, layout and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, message us from the contact page.

Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?

No. We’re carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we plan the cabinets around their work.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.
