Fitted Home Offices in Ealing

About fitted home offices in Ealing

Planning the cables early is what keeps a home office tidy. Cable holes and routes are built into the desk and cupboards. Any new sockets are fitted by your electrician, with the furniture designed to suit. We look at the sockets when we visit in Ealing. Typical reasons to get in touch are a desk buried under papers and a spare room that has to be an office and a guest room, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.

  1. You tell us how you work and where you’d like the office.
  2. We measure the room, look at the light and note the sockets. Cable routes are planned at this point.
  3. The design is agreed and a quote in writing follows.
  4. The office is made in our workshop and painted in your colour.
  5. We fit it in your home and check every drawer and door with you.

How our quotes work

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It is useful to talk about parking at the design visit.

What you get with us

  • Scribed to uneven walls
  • Over 300 projects completed
  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • Made for your room, not a standard size

How to get a quote

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the design visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, get in touch through our contact form and let us know about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Working from home across Ealing

Across Ealing, from Acton, Southall and Greenford outwards, we design and fit fitted home offices. A desk behind doors suits a room that has to do two things. Shelf spans are chosen so books do not bow them.

The biggest shares of homes in Ealing were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 30%) and before 1919 (about 28%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. About 30% of homes in Ealing date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The box room over the stairs in an interwar house is a classic home office. Of the 19 places we have local pages for in Ealing, 4 have their centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission.

Homes across Ealing range from period terraces to modern blocks, and we work in all of them. Wherever you live, it starts with a visit and a quote.

Ealing: Living in a block of flats near Ealing Broadway station? Then home offices are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If you live in a period home close to St Saviour's Church, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.

Why people ask for fitted home offices in Ealing

Clutter on the desk is a common reason to get in touch. Purpose-made storage gives files, books and stationery a home. It keeps the work surface clear.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • Cables trailing across the desk and floor
  • Paperwork and files with nowhere to go
  • A guest room that is needed for work
  • Working at the kitchen table

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

With ready-made furniture, the colour is the maker’s choice. We paint the office in the colour you choose, so it can match the room or the woodwork.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?

Flats, conversions and lettings

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on leases.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you get in touch.

What affects the cost of fitted home offices

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • How square the room is
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Parking and unloading on your street

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Getting in touch

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To book one, message us from the contact page.

Could you do it yourself?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Your questions about fitted home offices in Ealing

How long does it take to fit a home office?

How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Every part is built in our workshop before we arrive. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Do you do plastering or decorating?

No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.

Can landlords use you for a rented flat?

Yes. It works the same way as any job: design visit, written quote, workshop, fitting. If the property is let, the agent can arrange access with the tenants.

Which materials go into your home offices?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The desk, shelves and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.

Is an alcove big enough for a desk?

That depends on the size of the alcove. Plenty of alcoves suit a small desk, with shelves and storage around it. We will tell you honestly when we visit.

Can a home office double as a guest room?

That depends on the space you have. An office on one wall often leaves room for a bed. We will look at the options during the design visit.
