Fitted cupboards across Haringey: what to expect
A fitted cupboard is built for one space and nowhere else. It can rise to the ceiling or stop at a height that suits the room, and it is trimmed to the walls so there are no tricky gaps. We fit them in hallways, on landings, in utility and boot rooms and in alcoves, with the inside planned around what you want to store. Typical reasons to get in touch are storage for towels and bedding and a cupboard for the meters with easy access, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
- It starts with a short note from you.
- At the design visit we measure at several points, as walls and floors in older homes are rarely flat or level.
- You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
- We make the cupboards in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cupboards and trim the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
- The spray-painted or hand-painted finish completes the job, and new paintwork should be treated gently while it cures.
What goes into your quote
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A larger piece means more material and more time. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Arranging a design visit
We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, then send a quote in writing. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Fitted storage across Haringey
Haringey has homes of every age, Tottenham, Noel Park and Wood Green included, and each kind has its own odd corners. Fitted cupboards are scribed and levelled on site.
Homes built before 1919 make up about 54% of the housing in Haringey, with about 13% built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. About 54% of homes in Haringey were built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Houses of that age have plenty of recesses, from hallway nooks to alcoves, and walls that are rarely straight. Flats in converted or shared houses account for about 24% of households in Haringey, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.
In London, the route into a home matters as much as the room, so the way in is measured along with the room.
Tottenham: If you live in a period home close to Church of St Mary the Virgin, hallway recesses and alcoves are where fitted cupboards earn their keep. Near listed buildings like Tower to South West of Bruce Castle, less than half a mile west of the centre of Tottenham, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.
Boards, parts and paint
Shelves
A shelf that sags looks tired quickly with the right thickness, lip or support.
Plinths and scribe strips
Scribing is how a cupboard meets a wall that is not flat for a close fit.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
There is a place for both. For a square alcove and a tight budget, a ready-made unit may do the job. Where the room is tricky, the walls are uneven or you want the cupboard to look built in, fitted joinery is normally the better answer.

Practical tips
The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:
- Check your lease if you live in a flat
- Make a note of what needs a home
- Tell us about meters and boilers in the space
- Leave room in front of the meters
Meter and fuse board cupboards work best when they stay easy to open. Avoid packing things in front of the meters, so engineers and meter readers can get to them quickly.
Any damp should be dealt with before furniture goes against a wall. Damp behind a cupboard can lead to mould, and external walls can be colder than internal ones. Ventilation inside the cupboard helps too.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.
Flats, conversions and lettings
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you get in touch.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
FAQs: fitted cupboards in Haringey
How long does fitting take?
How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We’ll talk it through during the design visit.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
We plan the route in during the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Can you box in my boiler with a fitted cupboard?
Yes. We design the cupboard to keep the clearances and ventilation set out in the boiler maker’s instructions, with doors that open wide for servicing. Work on the boiler itself is a job for a Gas Safe engineer.
Can you hide my gas and electricity meters?
Yes. A cupboard can tidy them away and still leaves them reachable. Moving them is not our work, as that is a job for your supplier or electrician.
Can I send pictures before the visit?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you use our contact form.
How are fitted cupboards priced?
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each cupboard is different, so we price it after measuring. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
