Fitted Cupboards in Enfield

From one end of Enfield to the other, we can design, make and fit fitted cupboards. Every job starts with a design visit, then a written quote.

About fitted cupboards in Enfield

Walls in period homes are rarely flat or square, and floors and ceilings can be out of level too. We scribe each cupboard to follow the wall, then set level on adjustable feet or a plinth. Skirting boards, picture rails and coving are cut around or met neatly, so the cupboard looks as if it has always been there. We make fitted cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about a cupboard for the meters with easy access and a hallway cupboard for coats and shoes.

Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.

  1. We start with a short note from you about the space and what it needs to hold.
  2. We visit, take careful measurements and go through the design with you.
  3. A quote in writing follows, covering the design, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. Everything is built and finished in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The cupboards are fitted in your home and trimmed to follow the walls. We check each door and shelf with you before we leave.

What goes into your quote

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Getting a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. To send them, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Near you in Edmonton

We fit furniture in homes around Starks Field School, The Latymer School and All Saints' Church, among other places. You’ll also find NiW Furniture pub (0.7 miles north), Brettenham Primary School (within half a mile south) and Pymmes Park (0.7 miles south-west). There is a railway station in Edmonton itself: Edmonton Green station. Well-known places in the area include Edmonton Green Shopping Centre (close by, under half a mile north-east) and North Middlesex University Hospital (1 mile south-west).

Awkward spaces in homes across Enfield

Across Enfield, flats and conversions rarely come with enough storage. Fitted cupboards can add it without taking over the room.

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 35% of the housing in Enfield, with about 23% built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Around a third of the homes in Enfield (about 35%) date from between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Interwar houses often have room in the hall and the box room for fitted cupboards. Of the 26 places we have local pages for in Enfield, 26 have their centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. The rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission.

We make fitted furniture for every kind of home in Enfield, from Victorian terraces to new-build flats. The process is the same wherever you are: a design visit, a written quote, then making and fitting.

Edmonton: Bruce Castle, about 1.8 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a shallow cupboard in a narrow hall can hold coats without blocking the way. Close to Pymmes Park? Fitted cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

When you need someone else

We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:

  • Work on a boiler, which is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register
  • Building work or structural changes
  • Changes to meters, which are for your supplier or an electrician

What it costs

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

What to send when you contact us

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • How you want to use the space
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Bespoke fitted cupboards or ready-made?

A flat-pack or ready-made cupboard is quick to buy and often cheaper, and in a square room they can work well. Where walls lean and floors slope, they rarely sit flush. A fitted cupboard is a bigger outlay, but it fits the space it is built for.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • How parking will work on your street

Flats, leases and landlords

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

Questions from Enfield

What are your cupboards made from?

Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in a colour you choose.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you, and it’s set out in the quote.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Can you build a cupboard around a boiler?

Yes, as long as the design respects the boiler’s instructions. We allow for the clearances and ventilation it needs and make sure an engineer can reach it.

Can you hide my gas and electricity meters?

Yes. A cupboard can tidy them away without getting in the way of access. We don’t move meters or fuse boards; that is for your supplier or an electrician.

How much does a fitted cupboard cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. For a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
