Our TV and media units across Hillingdon
TV units are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. The finish is spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in the colour you prefer. We work across London, including Hillingdon, after a design visit and a written quote. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about nowhere good for speakers and alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste.
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
- You get in touch with details of the room and where it is in your home.
- We visit to plan the unit and check the way in.
- A quote in writing follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we make the unit in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We bring the sections in, join them on the wall and scribe them to fit.
How our quotes work
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Getting a quote
It is useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

TV and media units across Hillingdon: local notes
If you’re in one of the older streets of Hillingdon, expect walls that lean and floors that dip, which is why every piece is trimmed to the wall on site. In newer homes across Hillingdon, the challenge is more often a plasterboard wall, which needs the right fixings.
In Hillingdon, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 37%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 25%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Around a third of the homes in Hillingdon (about 37%) date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Houses from the 1920s and 1930s often have a bay window and a chimney breast in the front room, which shape where TV and media units go. About 25% of homes in Hillingdon were built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Rooms from that era are often squarer, with fewer alcoves and sometimes no chimney breast, so a full wall of TV and media units is often the answer, with fixings chosen for the wall.
We make fitted furniture for every kind of home in Hillingdon, from Victorian terraces to new-build flats. Wherever you live, it starts with a visit and a quote.
Ruislip: Ickenham Hall, about 1.7 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. Near listed buildings like Lady Bankes School, less than half a mile south of the centre of Ruislip, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.
Is bespoke worth it?
Bought units often have a single cable gap, but cables normally still show somewhere. We plan the cable routes into the design, with access left for later changes.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
When is bespoke worth it?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t typically do that in an older room.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
What it’s made from
Moisture-resistant MDF
A large TV wall needs flat, stable panels. MDF gives smooth, even surfaces for painting.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting often suits units in older houses. You choose the colour.
What affects the price in Hillingdon
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- The internal fittings
- The overall size of the piece
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It helps to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.
Before the design visit
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form.
Flats, leases and landlords
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Questions we’re often asked
Do I choose the paint colour?
The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.
Does the unit work if the TV is on a bracket?
Where the TV is to be wall-mounted, we plan the unit around the bracket. The wall needs to be sound for the bracket, which we look at during the design visit.
Do you cover Hillingdon?
Yes. We cover Hillingdon, as part of our work across all London boroughs. To arrange a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Will you travel outside London?
No. Our work is in London only: all 32 boroughs and the City of London.
Is the furniture made to order?
We make it in our workshop, to the sizes taken at the design visit. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Normally not. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so check with the council first.
Do you do plastering or decorating?
No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.
