Loft Storage in Barnet

From one end of Barnet to the other, we design and make loft storage for your room. We visit, measure and talk it through before we quote.

Planning loft storage in Barnet?

How we make loft storage for Barnet

Getting furniture up to a loft room is part of the planning. We measure the route not just the room, so every section made at our workshop fits up the stairs. It is part of the job for any loft room in Barnet. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a dormer that isn’t being used and no wardrobe that fits under the slope.

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the loft and the stairs up to it.
  2. We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to fit.

What affects the price in Barnet

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, and the quote follows.

Fitted storage across Barnet

Across Barnet, including Finchley, Burnt Oak and East Finchley, most homes have a corner or recess that could do more. That might be under the stairs, in a bay, along the hall or under the eaves of a converted loft. The furniture is made for the space you have.

The biggest shares of homes in Barnet were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%) and before 1919 (about 20%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Around a third of the homes in Barnet (about 34%) date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Loft conversions are common in houses of that age, and the eaves can take fitted storage; we build the storage once the loft is converted or boarded. 6 of the 41 places in Barnet with their own pages here have their centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission.

We cover the whole of London, so homes in Barnet are well within our area. Let us know about access and parking when you first get in touch.

Finchley: Near listed buildings like The Manor House, about 0.5 miles south-west of the centre of Finchley, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. For a flat near New Southgate station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

What affects the cost of loft storage

Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:

  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • How big the furniture is
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • How many doors and drawers there are

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. Tell us about parking during the design visit, so it can be planned.

Before the design visit

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. A written quote follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, fill in our short enquiry form.

Flats, leases and landlords

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the measuring visit.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t advise on your lease.

Is bespoke worth it?

Standard furniture does not allow for the insulation and ventilation behind the eaves. Bespoke storage is designed so it does not block ventilation or squash insulation. That is important for the health of the loft.

What to check before you book

  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Whether you’ll get a quote in writing, not just a figure
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from

Before and after fitting day

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. A few pointers help:

  • Note how narrow the loft stairs are
  • Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer
  • Empty the eaves so we can see what’s behind
  • Tell us about parking at the measuring visit

Before we leave, we check every door and drawer with you. Any access to the eaves is checked so it still opens. That way, everything works as planned.

Keep the eaves ventilated and avoid pressing things against the back of the space. Squashed insulation works less well. Damp in the eaves is worth raising with the people who did the conversion.

What we don’t do

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
  • Any work on the structure of the house
  • Approval for structural changes

FAQs: loft storage in Barnet

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking.

Can you make loft storage for a home in Barnet?

Yes. We work across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, Barnet included.

Can you convert my loft as well?

No. Our work is storage in loft rooms that are already converted, or in boarded lofts. A conversion is building work, and Building Regulations apply. Once your loft is converted, we can design the storage.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

What finishes do you offer?

You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Do you work outside London?

No. We only take on work in London.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
