How we make bespoke kitchens for Greenwich
Moisture-resistant MDF suits kitchens well, because it copes with a room that gets steamy. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about tall larder storage and a kitchen finished in your colours.
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
- We start with how you use the kitchen and what is not working.
- We visit, measure the walls, floor and ceiling, and go through the design.
- We send a quote that sets out the design, materials and finish, for you to read through.
- The units are made and finished in our workshop.
- The kitchen is fitted in your home, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer do the plumbing, electrics and gas. We do not arrange those trades, so it helps to book them early.
Quotes in Greenwich
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It is useful to talk about parking during the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Around Plumstead
In Plumstead, that includes homes near Shooters Hill Sixth Form College, St John's Church and Plumstead Common, among other places. Nearby too are The Queens Arms (close by, under half a mile north-west), Plumstead Manor School (less than half a mile south-east) and South Rise Primary School (a few minutes’ walk south-east). Plumstead has its own railway station: Plumstead station. Nearby you’ll also find British Hospital for Mothers and Babies (1.3 miles west) and Gallions Reach Shopping Park (1.6 miles north).
Kitchens across Greenwich
Greenwich has homes of every age, Plumstead, Eltham and Woolwich included, and kitchens in each bring their own challenges. Each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site. Moisture-resistant MDF suits a kitchen well.
In Greenwich, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 26%) and before 1919 (about 22%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. A quarter or more of the homes in Greenwich (about 26%) were built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Kitchens in homes built since 2000 are often open-plan, with stud walls, so the cabinet fixings are chosen for the board. Purpose-built flats are home to about 43% of households in Greenwich, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. For a flat, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
The ULEZ has covered every London borough since August 2023, and red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping, so access to homes in Greenwich is planned beforehand.
Plumstead: Living in a block of flats near Plumstead station? Then it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If you live in a period home close to St John's Church, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.
Could you do it yourself?
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.
It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.
Looking after your furniture
Getting the most from bespoke kitchens starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Make sure an island will not crowd the room
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
- Let us know how parking works on your street
- Know your appliance sizes early
Hand-painted kitchens are easy to touch up. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth. Keep a note of the paint colours.
Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease early. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.
Honest limits
Not everything around bespoke kitchens is carpentry, such as an electrician, a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here’s what to know:
- Making good walls and ceilings
- Connecting a gas hob or cooker
- Knocking through or rebuilding walls
What prompts bespoke kitchens
Some want a kitchen that suits a period house. A painted kitchen with a dresser can feel at home in an older room and look as if they belong.
If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:
- Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls
- A larder for food and small appliances
- An island where space allows
- Making the most of a galley kitchen
Questions we are often asked
Where is the furniture made?
We make it in our workshop, to the design and sizes agreed after the design visit. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.
How long will the kitchen take to fit?
Every kitchen is different. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you can plan your other trades around it.
Will you travel outside London?
No. We cover London only: all 32 boroughs and the City of London.
How are bespoke kitchens priced?
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Every kitchen is different, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
Do you fit furniture for landlords?
Yes. Landlords and letting agents can arrange a design visit in the same way as anyone else. Access has to be agreed with the tenants for the visit and for fitting day.
What materials do you use for kitchens?
MDF for smooth painted parts and birch plywood for drawer boxes and shelves. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours you choose.
