About TV and media units in Redbridge
TV units are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. You choose a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, in the colour you prefer. We fit across Redbridge and the rest of London once the design and quote are agreed. We make TV and media units from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about equipment running hot in a closed cupboard and equipment with nowhere proper to go.
In older rooms, the furniture typically has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- You send us a few details about the TV, the boxes and the speakers you use, including the size of the screen.
- At the design visit, we measure up and plan the screen space, cable routes and ventilation with you. New sockets or wiring are for your electrician, so it is useful to have them in mind early.
- We send a quote in writing for the unit.
- Each section is built in our workshop to the measurements we took, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The unit is fitted in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls. We check the doors and shelves with you before we leave.
What goes into your quote
There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
Local landmarks in Woodford
We fit furniture in homes around Churchfields Junior School, St Barnabas' Church and Woodford Green Preparatory School, among other places. Also close by are Former White Hart Public House (0.7 miles south-west), The Highams Park (1.1 miles north-west) and Woodbridge High School (less than half a mile south-east). The nearest railway station is Highams Park station, about 1.3 miles west of the centre. Nearby you’ll also find Wanstead Hospital (1.4 miles south). Green spaces nearby include Highams Park Lake.
Homes across Redbridge and their living rooms
We make TV and media units for homes across Redbridge, in Woodford, Ilford and Loxford and beyond. Walls could be solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard, so fixings are chosen for each. Shelf spans and depths are chosen so nothing bows.
In Redbridge, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%) and before 1919 (about 27%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how TV and media units are fixed and fitted. About 34% of homes in Redbridge date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Interwar front rooms typically have a bay at the front and a chimney breast on the side wall, which shape where TV and media units go. Terraced houses are home to about 32% of households in Redbridge, the 2021 Census shows. Terraced houses in London often have alcoves beside a chimney breast, which suit TV and media units built to their exact widths.
Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs, and depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. Let us know about parking during the design visit.
Woodford: Living in a block of flats near Highams Park station? Then it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. Close to The Highams Park? Shelving that stops short of the window keeps the view of the green.
What affects the price in Redbridge
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- How big the furniture is
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Doors and drawers, and how many
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
What we need to know
There is no need for exact sizes or plans. It is enough to send:
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- What the furniture needs to hold
It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Caring for painted furniture
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. A few pointers help:
- Think about whether you’ll upgrade the screen
- Check where the seating will go
- Mention parking and stairs when we visit
- Think about whether you want the screen on a bracket or on a shelf
Once your equipment is in, check that it is not running hot. Keep vents, gaps and open backs clear of cables and clutter.
Tag each lead at both ends.
Materials and finishes
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is stiff and grips screws firmly, which suits shelves for heavy speakers and amplifiers.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting lets you see the colour in the room’s own light. Joins and scribed edges are painted at the same time.
Honest limits
Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:
- New sockets behind the TV, which need an electrician
- Painting the walls and ceiling
- Taking out a fireplace or chimney breast
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
Common questions about TV and media units
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Do you work outside London?
No. We only take on work in London.
Where is the furniture made?
Each piece is made in our workshop for the room it’s going into, then fitted in your home. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Do you make good the walls afterwards?
No. We do not plaster or decorate, so any work on the walls is for a plasterer or decorator. The furniture is finished by spray or by hand, as agreed in your quote.
Can a TV unit hold speakers?
Speakers and soundbars get open shelves sized for them. Closing speakers behind a door muffles them.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
