Fitted wardrobes across Bromley: what to expect

Fitted wardrobes are built to the room, from the floor to the ceiling and from wall to wall where that suits the room. That leaves no gap above to gather dust and no wasted space at the sides. If you’re planning fitted wardrobes in Bromley, the first step is a design visit to measure up and talk through the design. Typical reasons to get in touch are damp or musty clothes against an external wall and too little room for clothes; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.

  1. You contact us with a few details about the room and the wardrobes you’d like.
  2. We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you.
  3. You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish, ready for you to read through.
  4. We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.

How our quotes work

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. Let us know about parking during the design visit, so it can be planned.

How to get a quote

To make a start, tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us a little about the room. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a written quote afterwards.

Homes across Bromley and their bedrooms

In Bromley, a spare room often doubles as a study or a guest room. The design can help one room work two ways.

In Bromley, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 30%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 27%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Around a third of the homes in Bromley (about 30%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. A quarter or more of the homes in Bromley (about 27%) were built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Post-war bedrooms are typically simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, with fixings chosen for concrete, block or brick.

Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges. Let us know about parking during the design visit.

Orpington: If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of All Saints, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. Close to Jubilee Country Park? Fitted wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Flats, leases and landlords

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.

Materials and finishes

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawers can be hidden behind doors or shown as part of the front as you prefer. Inside drawers keep the front simple.

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting is done in the workshop, giving a smooth, even surface on large doors. It works on plain and panelled doors alike.

Caring for painted furniture

New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Let us know which walls face outside
  • For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
  • List the things that won’t hang, such as jumpers and shoes
  • Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day

Painted doors feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. At first, handle the doors with care and avoid knocking hangers against the inside.

Every so often, check that nothing has worked loose.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Getting a big standalone wardrobe into a flat or up a tight stair can be difficult. Our wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors.

What to check before you book

  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber

What affects the cost of fitted wardrobes

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The internal fittings

There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Before the design visit

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Which boards do you build with?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF is stable and takes paint well, while birch plywood is strong and holds screws well.

Will you paint the walls around the furniture?

No. Plastering and decorating aren’t part of our work. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.

How do I get started?

It’s easiest to message us from the contact page with a few details about the room. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Not usually. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

How long will the fitting take?

The time on site depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will talk you through what to expect beforehand.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. That is why we measure the route, not just the room. If you’re in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.
