Bespoke kitchens in Lambeth: how it works
We make the cabinets; the worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, so everything fits as it should. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. Most enquiries start with a painted kitchen in a colour you choose and a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers, and the answer is built in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.
- To begin, use our contact form; a brief note on the room and the kitchen you have in mind is plenty.
- At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
- A written quote follows for the cabinets, materials and finish. Plumbing, gas and electrics aren’t part of it: those are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
- We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home, working around your plumber, your electrician and a Gas Safe engineer.
Quotes in Lambeth
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Starting with a design visit
We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To book a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Bespoke kitchens across Lambeth: local notes
For kitchens across Lambeth, a larder cupboard or dresser often adds the most storage. The cabinets are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
The biggest shares of homes in Lambeth were built before 1919 (about 40%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 17%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. About 40% of homes in Lambeth were built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Older houses often have narrow kitchens at the back, with floors that slope, so each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site. About 22% of households in Lambeth live in flats in converted or shared houses, the 2021 Census shows. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.
Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs, so a van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges. Let us know about parking during the design visit.
Stockwell: Close to Max Roach Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. For a family home near St Andrew's Church of England Primary School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the design visit.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the design visit.
What prompts bespoke kitchens
Often the call comes after building work has opened up the space. A new room needs a kitchen planned for its shape and light, and building work itself is for your builder.
If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:
- A kitchen that fits an uneven room
- Room for everything in the kitchen
- Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
- A kitchen finished in your colours
When you need someone else
Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we do not do:
- Connecting a gas hob or cooker
- New sockets or circuits
- Painting the walls around the kitchen
Tips worth knowing
Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:
- Check there is room around an island before planning one
- Pick the oven, fridge and dishwasher first
- List what needs a home in the kitchen
- Have damp sorted before fitting
Hand-painted kitchens are easy to touch up. A spray finish gives a smooth, even surface that wipes clean. Keep a note of the paint colours.
It helps to know which appliances you want early. We size the spaces around them, so late changes can be tricky.
What it costs
What you pay depends on:
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- How many doors and drawers there are
- The overall size of the piece
Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote.
What we need to know
Ahead of the design visit, we’ll normally ask about:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. When you’re ready, tell us about the room on our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Lambeth
Do you make good the walls afterwards?
No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. Check your lease, as we cannot advise on it.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
