Our fitted wardrobes across Bexley
We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in a colour agreed with you. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet. Most enquiries start with not enough hanging space and dusty space on top of the wardrobe, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
- At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
- We send a quote in writing with the layout, materials and finish, ready for you to read through.
- We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors.
What goes into your quote
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What’s near Sidcup
Our area takes in the homes around Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School, Waring Park and Birkbeck Primary School and the streets around them. You’ll also find Holy Trinity Church (less than half a mile north) and The Alma pub (close by, under half a mile south). Sidcup has its own railway station: Sidcup station. A little further out are Queen Mary's Hospital (1 mile south) and Metropolitan Police Museum (less than half a mile north-west).
Homes across Bexley and their bedrooms
Homes across Bexley, Sidcup, Welling and Erith among them, often have one bedroom that has to do two jobs. Fitted wardrobes can be planned so the room switches between them.
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 41% of the housing in Bexley, with about 22% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. More than a third of the homes in Bexley (about 41%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. About 52% of households in Bexley live in detached or semi-detached houses, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.
Since August 2023, the Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London, and TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules.
Sidcup: Close to Waring Park? Keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. Danson House, about 1.7 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Bought wardrobes are made in set sizes, so there is usually a gap on top and at the ends. A fitted wardrobe runs to the ceiling and the walls, so the space is used and there’s nowhere for dust to collect on top.
Before you hire any carpenter
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
- How doors and drawers are fitted
Flats, conversions and lettings
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the design visit.
Do you need fitted wardrobes?
For some, it’s about a calmer room. A run of painted doors from wall to wall looks quieter than several separate pieces.
We are often asked to help with:
- Empty alcoves in the bedroom
- A tight bedroom where doors get in the way
- Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
- Mismatched bedroom furniture
When you need someone else
We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:
- Structural changes to the room
- Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
- Treating damp or mould on the walls
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Bexley
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
How long will the fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We will talk you through what to expect beforehand.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
How do I get started?
Just get in touch through our contact form. It is useful to send rough sizes and a few photos, and we will arrange a design visit.
Do you do plastering or decorating?
No. Plastering and decorating are not part of our work. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.
Which boards do you build with?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF gives a smooth, stable surface for paint; birch plywood is strong and good for shelves and drawer boxes.
